The human body has the instinctive need to respond to danger and when the body comes into contact with anything that it senses as a threat, some involuntary physiological occurrences happen causing what is commonly called stress. This instinctive response is a defense mechanism that allows people to prepare the body to immediately react against danger. In most cases, when the body senses that the danger is no longer present, it returns to its normal, relaxed state. However, people who suffer chronic stress disorder remains constantly tense even when the danger has long passed so they need good stress coping skills.

There are many reasons that may trigger stress like the problems at the workplace, worries about family and marriage, and trouble with finances. The body senses these stimuli as threats, accelerating heartbeat, routing blood circulation to the large muscle, pumping adrenaline into the system, speeding up breathing, and heightening sense perception.

Chronic stress disorder will make it overly difficult for your body to switch off its natural response to threat, resulting to tension, inability to sleep, poor digestion, irritability, and worst, depression and anxiety. Most of the times, the only way that the body can allow itself to shut down its extended threat mode is through depression. If you feel these conditions, and if you are in a constant red alert situation, then you are likely suffering from chronic stress disorder and should therefore seek the help of a physician.

Stress Coping Skills with Chronic Stress Disorder

Since prolonged stress can alter the body’s chemistry and disrupt metabolism, your doctor may give you medication such as antidepressants so that your body will be able to recover its normal, balanced and relaxed state.Psychological counseling or “talk therapy” may also be a good course of action since a professional can help you find ways to effectively cope with chronic stress disorder. Also, a good alternative therapy is through relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation since your body responds well to such means.

A good exercise program is truly a good way to relieve yourself of stress since it can actually burn cholesterol which is sometimes a by-product of chronic stress disorder. On top of this, a good exercise program will also help you control a proper wake and sleep cycle since it will regulate your metabolism.

Truly, a healthy diet is a major key to coping with chronic stress disorder and its effects.Eating the right kinds of food will help your body take in the nutrients that it needs to restore the energy lost with stress and put your physiological condition back to its balance and relaxed mode. Staying away from caffeine, fats, and sugars while increasing intake of poultry, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as certain types of nuts and teas, is definitely a great help in becoming the healthy person that you were before chronic stress disorder struck.

Up until a few years ago many of my friends and family used to call me “a stress head”. Why you may well be thinking? Well quite simply because I seemingly stressed about anything and everything.

So what was the cause of all of this stress? Most of the problems were probably due to the fact that I had a stammer/stutter. This speech impediment had developed when I was at the age of four. As you may well imagine it is something that destroyed my overall confidence levels. Therapy for stammering, at the time, was less than impressive which did not exactly help the situation.

Having a lack of confidence affected nearly all areas of my life; not just my speech. I would worry about what other people thought of me, I would stress about my height and my weight. I had a need or want, for some unknown reason, for people to like me. Looking back it all just sounds so crazy but it was like I was being controlled by some demonic force. It even affected my career which is within the cheap mobile calls and cheap holidays industries.

The turning point came as I entered into my twenties; it was time for a change and a big one at that. I could no longer live in this way – there surely had to be more to life than this.

I was soon to realise that I was the only person who was going to sort my life out.

I started to work very hard at learning how to increase self-esteem for example. I also studied the ways in which the best fluent talkers were speaking in comparison to me in an attempt to eradicate the speech impediment.

Progress was far from quick however after around a year of battling against my demons I did manage to overcome the stutter and I did manage to discover ways to stop me stressing – it is all about attitude and the way we approach life – think positive and believe in yourself!

For several decades now, researches everywhere the planet have asserted that what goes on in the mind affects the body. Negative thoughts and a negative attitude cause our feeling low: our heads fall, our shoulders sag, and our respiration becomes shallow. Of course it has been conclusively proved that negative mind spark off an entire chain of physio-biological reactions, that are designed to create us feel this way.

On the opposite hand, positive thoughts and positive attitudes build us feel good: our heads are held up, we tend to appear up, stand taller, breathe deeper and fuller.

So you see, the body is directly plagued by our mental state. But, contemplate this: recent analysis reveals {that the} body additionally has the potential of affecting the mind. The means you carry yourself, the manner you walk, the means you talk, and the way you project your physical self, affects your perspective and mind to a reasonably large extent. If you usually stand straight, together with your chest held out and breathe deeply, probabilities are that you may be projecting a positive outlook. On the other hand, if your shoulders are dropped, and you have got a crouched back, you’re probably passing through a rather dull phase.

An interesting and probably very powerful corollary of this can be that we have a tendency to can management our emotions though our bodily actions and postures. Hence, if we tend to want to feel sensible or positive all we have a tendency to have to try to to is change our body posture. Though it might vary only slightly from individual to individual, the general constituents of a positive frame of mind are more or less the identical: Head high, Shoulders pulled back, Deep Respiration, Chest Held Out, and after all the all vital SMILE. As Anthony Robbins puts it, “Motion creates Emotion”. The way we have a tendency to move changes, the means we tend to assume, feel and behave. The slightest movement of a facial muscle to a rigorous workout can affect our emotions.

Even the straightforward act of smiling can build an huge difference to your state. In depth research during this area proves {that the} act of smiling sets of a biological reaction that affects all parts of the body. It stimulates the center and therefore the lungs. It increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain. The body’s excretory organs functions additional smoothly clearing the body of harmful toxins. Imagine such a simple act of getting such a way-reaching consequences, Of course several doctors are of the opinion that fifteen minutes of lighter laughter daily, will increase your life by concerning 5-ten years.

The point is that nothing happens by chance. We have all been created in an exceedingly terribly scientific manner. Every gesture, each moment in the body has some purpose – some cause us to feel miserable, doubt our talents, and curse our luck, whereas others create us feel smart, optimistic and positive concerning life. We have a tendency to have got to settle on the ones we have a tendency to desire.

I am a person who used to stress in a big way. At one point a work colleague made a comment that he thought that I walked around with the weight of the world’s problems on my shoulders. Things though had to and were about to change.

I then went about reading lots of books about mind over matter and positive thinking.

Panicking and fretting about any given task does in no way make it any easier. I have to say that it actually makes things a lot worse. The important thing to remember is that in life all you can do is try your best. When a negative thought or worry enters your head you need to immediately ignore it and to change your thought processes into thinking about something which makes you happy or smile. You have to treat these demons as your worst enemy and fight them away. Treat it like a war and be determined not to let them win the battle of minds.

I had always been a worrier; this is something that commenced in childhood probably due to the fact that I had a stutter. I did attend stuttering treatment however I only managed to overcome my stuttering problem when I was aged twenty-two after watching a seventy minute self-help therapy DVD which I bought from The How To Stop Stuttering Centre in Birmingham, England.

I also learned to become a much more care-free person and I also now appreciate what I have in life rather than worrying about what I do not have.

These things have helped to improve my life in a big way; as an example I am now a successful business man selling composite doors and I also offer a professional DVD authoring service.

I hope the above stress-relief tips help other people as much as they have helped me.

Daily life with all its challenges and unexpected situations is a permanent source of anxiety and stress. Life inevitably causes tension, and it often stimulates us to work harder and achieve more of the set goals. However, anxiety and stress no longer remain stimulating factors when they come to rule one’s life completely: anxiety disorders are a nervous disease and they have to be treated. Such a health problem makes the sufferer experience anxiety and stress most of the time, even when there is no reason for feeling so.

Anxiety and stress could thus bother you all day long, preventing you from carrying on with regular activities, or you may experience such discomforts in occasional bouts that are incredibly intense and terrifying. It is false to assume that these health problem represent a character flaw; it is not a matter of being weak or strong. Lots of people try the approach of pulling themselves up by the bootstraps, but this very seldom works. Therapy becomes necessary, sometimes accompanied by the administration of antidepressants or tranquilizers. Therefore, one needs to eliminate the factors that cause anxiety and stress, and ruin personal and professional life.

There are two components for every disorder caused by anxiety and stress: psychological and biological, and therefore the solution for the problem has to include a combination of interventions relying both on cognitive and behavioral psychotherapy. Family history and genetics have their share among the possible triggers of an anxiety disorder, but other factors too contribute to the evolution of the disease. Traumatic experience, the impossibility to deal with a too high stress level, major life decisions, alcohol or substance abuse, emotional instability and lots of other problems could be at the root of recurrent panic attacks.

A great deal of responsibility falls on the family to help a person overcome anxiety and stress. It is more than obvious that people with a balanced and harmonious lifestyle who feel happy with their family and living conditions, are less likely to suffer from an anxiety disorder. Nevertheless, dealing with stress represents a natural mechanism in regular life, and only when too much pressure is put on our nervous system, it may fail. Moreover, the same family support is incredibly helpful for the recovery of a person suffering from an anxiety disorder. An active involvement in therapy, a good relationship with the doctor, informative research and family environment, represent the most important ways of speeding up recovery.

Not many people are relaxed at work. It is often a challenging, sometimes competitive and highly charged political environment and has many demands both mentally and emotionally

What causes it?

Workplace stress can be caused by many factors, such as excessive workload, long working hours, friction with colleagues or disagreements with senior managers. Such stressors result in a number of health problems including, insomnia, anxiety, extreme anger, family conflicts and physical illnesses, such as migraines, heart diseases and back problems. It can also lead to social withdrawal, alcoholism and substance abuse.

Being stressed can lead to physical issues such as migraine, heart disease or back pain; emotionally it may end up in social withdrawal, intense hate and substance abuse. Therefore, it s very important indeed, to work on the causal factors at your workplace to minimize any risks to your overall wellbeing.

Bad time management for example, is a first cause. To deal with the issue, you should maintain a balanced daily program as agreed by your day by day tasks. Find a workplace and family life equilibrium which will allow you to complete your jobs amicably while leaving you enough time for relaxation or other social activities. Don t try and do too much in twenty four hours and plan regular breathers to sit back and relax in. Also, arrive for work at least 10-15 early each day to allow yourself time to settle down into work.

Another important factor behind finding yourself stressed at work is the poor scheduling of tasks. Ideally, you need to make a list of the jobs at hand and schedule them according to concern. If the project is to huge, divide it up into chunks and work on each of them step by step. Further, start delegating responsibilities to subordinates and ask them to get control of the assigned work.

What can be done?

Positive attitude

In stressful work conditions, having a positive attitude towards work and life goes a long way in handling work challenges and bringing relief. If you are in a position to get rid of negative thoughts, you can easily concentrate on your work and other aspects of life.

Another key action is to switch your behavior and control your emotions depending upon the environment.

Stay out of office politics

One special counsel that would help you remain free from all the stressful issues is to refrain from being involved in backbiting and office politics to whatever extent possible. The fact that you are hearing such things about others makes you believe that such information about your own self might be circulating around. It leads to being stressed. If you aren’t aware of gossip, you need not be scared of it either.

Eat sensibly

Having a wrong diet is another reason that people become stressed at the workplace. You should really watch your diet . Avoid things like cola drinks, calorie laden snacks and things with too much of sugar. If you are into taking uppers and downers tablets get in contact with a doctor to get rid of them.

Self development program

Community service and self development activities can go a long way towards calming your responses. They bring peace of mind which you would otherwise be hard pressed to find. You must think about taking up a new hobby or something similar to that.

If the situation at work is truly intolerable, you may consider taking up new skills, pastimes and educational qualifications to enable yourself to look at other work opportunities and also keep abreast of your career demands. While you may not be in a position to lessen workplace stress, you can always learn to manage jobs and situations intelligently thereby, reducing it.

Is there a connection between stressful thoughts and, say, arthritis, or chronic fatigue, or cancer?

Not too long ago, it used to be thought that our minds resided in the head, completely different and separate from the body. But science has shown otherwise. Our whole body is intelligent and works as a complete system, so integrated with our feelings and thoughts that they cannot really be separated, except artificially.

With this in mind it is easy to see how our state of mind can bear a direct relationship to our overall health and feeling of well-being and how it can have a deep connection to painful symptoms in the body, from headaches to chronic illness

The Stories We Tell

We are not stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed because of the economy, our partners, or challenges at work, but because of the stories we tell ourselves in our minds about these circumstances. Emotions can sometimes get out of control and take over, dimming our normal rational responses to things. As a result, automatic stressor related responses from our bodies end up compromising the immune system with the result that we can develop all kinds of aches and pains.

Boost your health through simple laughter exercises! Learn how

The Listening Body

This type of compromising body reaction usually occurs when we feel unable to handle what is in front of us at any particular time, or when it seems that the situations we confront are too many to cope with all at one go. We tend to get overwhelmed by our worries and fears. When we continuously keep worrying over events, what generally happens is that our bodies perceive this condition as a continual "threat" and reacts to it in the same way as it would to an actual physical attack. It does this by prioritizing and sending all its resources to what is most "vital" for a fight or flight response.

All of this at the expense of servicing the rest of our body which is ultimately deprived of what it needs to flourish

Cravings

An important part of dealing with stressful circumstances and taking care of the body, is to recognize and manage any stress-induced cravings. There is often a reduction in energy levels which could leave you facing cravings for sugary foods, alcohol, tobacco and so on in an effort to get a quick energy boost or for comfort. If you get into the habit of responding to these cravings automatically in this way you may end up creating a dependency on these substances that, in turn, causes additional strain on the body system.

And after a ’sugar’ high or coffee ‘hit’ you are also more prone to having a ‘low’ afterwards and this may trigger the craving for another ’shot’ or lead the way into a sinking into depression. The cycle then may spiral downwards and lead to consequent physical complications, such as symptoms of back pain, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, constricted blood vessels and heart problems and many more.

How Do We Protect Our Health From The Cumulative Effects?

When we constantly react to our environment in a stressful way our consciousness of what is taking place can get numbed out whilst at the same time the body is being constantly put under pressure to stay in ’survival response’ mode. So we have learned to ignore the signals at a conscious level and left the body to cope alone.

We are not relaxed, muscles remain tense, ready for flight, This explains how we can sometimes find ourselves in pain, with aching or stiff muscles or feel irritated and tired even though on the surface it seems that nothing has really happened. In fact pain is often the body’s way of saying ‘wake up’ to what’s happening. It is trying to communicate something and it is up to you to respond

Awareness is Key to Recovery.

Practise being aware of what is going on in your head and your body, without getting caught up in the drama. If you are going through a particularly stresful time, learn to acknowledge the thoughts and emotions associated with it, where you are tense in your body and when you feel most relaxed. When you witness and accept an unhealthy thinking process as it is, with compassion and without being over-involved it actually can empower you to then make better choices for yourself to move through and beyond. As you do this you will find your body starts to relax and the symptoms of physical pain start to subside. The body is esentially wired for health so if you cooperate with it and listen, you are less likely to develop painful conditions and illnesses

Management Of Mental and Physical Well Being.

Prolonged periods of emotionaly stressful responses can ultimately lead to chronic depression and physical complications that can eventually even cause death if not managed adequately.

What to do to relieve stress. Having quality, relaxing and fun time for yourself is of the utmost importance and this needs to be scheduled into your regular program.

Gather the support of loved ones, join a meditation class or listen to relaxation CD’s. Get some exercise and redirect or channel your anger and frustration through dance or squash or walks in the park. Watch funny movies and comedy programs and maybe even write a journal to allow your feelings and thoughts to be expressed and let go of.

Positive thoughts help you see the solutions in situations and enhance your creativity. Your ability to rationalize will increase.

Even with all the benefits, its too easy to slip into a bad mood or negative thought patterns. So here are 7 little tips on how to instantly be happier, healthier and wise:

1. Think Positive – This is easier said than done- especially when nothing seems to go your way. But there are many exercises you can do (like hypnosis, biofeedback or the silva method) to understand your own negative thought patterns so you can change them to positive, resourceful beliefs.

2. Give Someone A Compliment - Smiles are contagious. When you see someone smile, you will instantly smile. They are also more likely to reciprocate, but as they say, its better to give than to receive.

3. Take Care Of Your Look – How you present yourself says alot about how you feel about yourself. All it takes is a tiny gesture, like wearing your favorite shoes or getting a haircut, and you will instantly boost your happiness. The little things are very powerful.

4. Talk To A Stranger – Many of us these days are so focused on where we are going and what we need to get done, that we hardly stop and take time to smell the roses. Human beings need social interaction. You never know, you could make a new best friend or maybe even more.

5. Visualize Your Success – When you take the time to imagine and really see and feel what your success will be, it instantly gives you a great feeling. Not only this, but visualization is a powerful manifestation technique. Visualization not only brings you closer to your goals, but makes you happier on the way.

6. Sing- We all don’t have the voice of an angel, but everyone likes to sing, regardless of whether they admit it or not. If your more of a shy type, start conducting concerts in your shower.

7. Decide to be Happy – Just choose happiness, right now, as you read this. Its that simple.
